When you add a matcha latte to your menu, the first question is usually the price. What nearby cafés charge differs a lot by country, and by whether the café is a chain or a specialist. Below are café menu prices in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and the US, each with the date of its source, followed by how tax and service charge show on menus, how much size and milk change the price, and how to set a price from the cost per cup.
How much do matcha latte prices differ by country and café?
In the three Southeast Asian countries, specialists charge more than twice what affordable cafés charge for a matcha latte. In Japan the gap between chains and specialists is small, and in the US a cup costs about US$4 to US$7 depending on the city and café.
Price ranges in five countries
These prices come from official menus, delivery menus and dated articles. Each is in local currency and has not been converted.
| Country | Affordable cafés and chains | Matcha specialists and independents | Date of sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Singapore | S$4.50 to S$6.20 | S$6.50 to S$9.90 (some shown before tax and service charge) | April to October 2026 |
| Thailand | 60 to 75 baht (Starbucks 165 baht) | 110 to 150 baht | March 2025 to October 2026 |
| Indonesia | Rp20,000 to Rp34,000 | Rp51,000 to Rp63,000 | November 2024 to October 2026 |
| Japan | ¥520 to ¥670 | ¥620 to ¥720 (from ¥770 with toppings) | October 2026 |
| US | about US$4.81 to US$5.45 | US$6.25 to US$6.96 | March 2025 to January 2026 |
How to compare prices
Prices change by café and over time. The prices here are those at the dates in the table. Unless you line up the cup size (how many ounces) and whether tax is included, comparisons between cafés will be off. The section on tax and service charge below covers each country.
Menu prices in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia
In all three countries, affordable cafés and local chains are the cheapest, and matcha specialists charge more, often naming the region or type of matcha in the drink’s name. Café and drink names are as written in the sources.
Singapore
| Café | Type | Drink | Price | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ton Coffee | Café | Iced Matcha Latte | S$4.50 | Eatbook (22 April 2026) |
| Hi Coffee | Café | Ajisai Matcha Latte | S$5.80 | Same |
| Green Green Matcha | Matcha stall (in a coffee shop) | Matcha Latte | S$6 | Same |
| CHAGEE | Tea chain | Signature Matcha Latte | S$6.20 | Eatbook (4 September 2026) |
| Matchaya (Tiong Bahru) | Matcha specialist | matcha latte | S$6.50 hot, S$7.50 iced (before 10% service charge and GST) | MissLobang (updated 21 October 2026) |

| Matsu Matcha | Matcha specialist | Stone Milled Seiha Matcha Latte w Tencha True Ceremonial | S$9.90 | Same |
The same Eatbook article says a matcha latte in Singapore “often goes for $8 or more”. Even in an article on affordable cafés, prices were S$4.50 to S$6, and in the table only Ton Coffee came in under S$5.
Thailand
Thai prices were checked on LINE MAN Wongnai (a Thai delivery service) on 22 October 2026. The prices in the table are the in-store prices shown in the page data.
| Café | Type | Drink | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Café Amazon | Coffee chain | เฟรชมัทฉะลาเต้ (fresh matcha latte) | 60 baht |
| Inthanin | Coffee chain | มัทฉะลาเต้ (matcha latte) | 60 baht hot, 75 baht iced |
| Café Amazon | Coffee chain | Iced Premium Uji Matcha Latte | 95 baht |
| daia.muncha | Matcha specialist | Classic Matcha Latte | 110 baht |
| Starbucks | Coffee chain | Pure Matcha Latte (Tall, 12oz) | 165 baht |
Among the Bangkok specialists Time Out Bangkok featured in March 2025, MTCH’s matcha lattes were 125 and 150 baht, and Hidden Leaf’s was 135 baht. In Thailand, local chains are cheap at 60 to 75 baht, and specialists charge about twice that. Starbucks charges more than the specialists listed here.
Indonesia
| Café | Type | Drink | Price | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Point Coffee (Indomaret) | Convenience store coffee | Hot Matcha / Iced Matcha | Rp20,000 / Rp25,000 | ANTARA (1 November 2024) |

| Matchaman | Matcha specialist | Matchaman Latte (cold-whisked matcha) | Rp63,000 | Same |
In Indonesia, Fore Coffee was the only café whose price we could confirm on an official website. The others are prices reported in the media. Specialists charge more than twice what chains charge, and show the type of matcha or how it is whisked in the drink’s name.
Menu prices in Japan and the US
In Japan, chains charge ¥520 to ¥670 for a matcha latte and matcha specialists start at ¥620, so the gap is small. In the US, prices at the same chain vary by state and city.

The Chowhound article notes that prices vary by location. US sales tax rates differ by state and locality (see the next section).
Do menu prices include tax and service charge?
Whether the price on the menu is what the customer pays differs by country. Before comparing with other countries or working out your own food cost percentage, line up how tax and service charge are treated.
Singapore: “++” prices
IRAS, Singapore’s tax authority, requires GST-registered businesses to show prices including GST (Goods and Services Tax, 9%). As an exception, hotels and F&B outlets that impose a service charge may show prices without GST. They must then display a prominent statement that prices are subject to GST and service charge, and items sold only for takeaway with no service charge must be priced including GST.
Source: IRAS, “Hotel and Food & Beverage” https://www.iras.gov.sg/taxes/goods-services-tax-(gst)/specific-business-sectors/hotel-and-food-beverage
In the IRAS example, a 10% service charge of $10 is added to $100 of food and drinks, and 9% GST ($9.90) on that $110 brings the total to $119.90. Because GST is also charged on the service charge, a “++” price works out to about 1.2 times the menu price. For example, Matchaya’s hot matcha latte at S$6.50 comes to about S$7.79 with service charge and GST (our calculation).
Thailand and Indonesia
Thailand’s VAT (value added tax) is 7%, and the Revenue Department has announced this rate will continue until 30 September 2027. Check with each café whether its menu prices include VAT. If they do, dividing by 1.07 gives the price without tax.
In Indonesia, food and drinks served in restaurants and similar places are excluded from VAT (PPN), according to the Directorate General of Taxes. Instead, a regional tax (PBJT, a tax on certain goods and services) applies, and the rate in Jakarta is 10%. In Jakarta, businesses with monthly turnover of Rp42 million or less are excluded.
Japan and the US
In Japan, prices shown to consumers must be the total amount including consumption tax (Ministry of Finance). Consumption tax is 10% for eating in and a reduced 8% for takeaway. At a café like Doutor that charges the same tax-included price for both, the same ¥520 leaves the café about ¥473 without tax when eaten in, and about ¥481 when taken away (our calculation).
In the US, sales tax rates differ by state and locality. In California, district taxes of 0.10% to 2.00% are added to the statewide rate of 7.25% (California Department of Tax and Fee Administration).
What changes the price: size, milk, toppings and type of matcha
Even at the same café, the price of a matcha latte changes with size, milk, toppings and the type of matcha. Cafés list these as surcharges on their menus.
Size and milk
| Café | Larger size | Different milk |
|---|---|---|
| Doutor (Japan) | ¥50 per step from S to M to L | - |
| nana’s green tea (Japan) | ¥100 from M to L | - |
| Starbucks (Thailand) | Grande +15 baht, Venti +30 baht | Oat milk +25 baht, coconut milk +15 baht |
| Inthanin (Thailand) | - | Oat milk +15 baht |
| Café Amazon (Thailand) | - | Oat milk +5 baht |
| Matchaman (Indonesia) | - | Oat milk latte is Rp7,000 more than with dairy milk |
| Coffee Break (Singapore) | - | Oat milk +S$1.20 |
Even among the Thai cafés alone, the oat milk surcharge ranges from 5 to 25 baht. How to choose matcha for oat milk lattes is covered in How to choose matcha for oat milk lattes.
Toppings and type of matcha
At nana’s green tea, the matcha latte is ¥620 (M), the matcha latte with soft-serve is ¥770, and the matcha latte float with shiratama is ¥850. At CHAGEE in Singapore, adding a Cheese Cap (cheese cream) to the Lime Cheese Matcha Latte raises the price from S$7.20 to S$7.70. Lattes topped with cream are covered in Matcha einspänner, and other drinks in the list of matcha drinks.
The type of matcha also changes the price.
- Café Amazon (Thailand): matcha latte 60 baht, Iced Premium Uji Matcha Latte made with Uji matcha 95 baht
- daia.muncha (Thailand): switching the matcha in the Classic Matcha Latte to “Nutty” costs 40 baht more
- Matchaya (Singapore): matcha latte S$6.50, Koicha Latte made with the Okumidori cultivar S$10 (hot)
- Matsu Matcha (Singapore): Uji Matcha Latte S$7.90, latte with stone-milled matcha S$9.90
At these four cafés, lattes with a higher type of matcha cost about 1.3 to 1.6 times the regular latte (our calculation). What creates the difference in matcha prices is covered in Why is matcha so expensive?
How to work out the cost per cup
The cost per cup is the matcha, milk, sweetener, cup and other items added together. The matcha cost is the price per kg ÷ 1,000 × the grams used per cup.
How much matcha per cup
The recipes of Ippodo Tea, a long-established Kyoto tea shop, dissolve 3g of matcha in 100ml of 80°C water and add 100ml of milk, both hot and iced. At 3g, 1kg makes about 330 cups. The matcha cost per cup is these 3g multiplied by “price per kg ÷ 1,000”.
| Matcha per cup | Cups per kg | Matcha cost per cup |
|---|---|---|
| 3g | about 333 | price per kg × 0.003 |
| 4g | 250 | price per kg × 0.004 |
If you add more matcha for a larger cup, the matcha cost rises by the same proportion. Going from 3g to 4g makes it about 1.3 times higher. How to set the ratio is covered in How to make a hot matcha latte.
Add milk, sweetener and the cup
Convert the other ingredients to a per-cup amount as follows.
- Milk: price per carton ÷ volume × amount per cup (include any opened milk you could not use up)
- Sweetener: price per bottle ÷ volume × amount per cup
- Ice, cup, lid and straw: the cost per cup
Adding all of these gives the ingredient cost per cup. If customers can choose oat milk or toppings, compare how much the ingredient cost rises with the surcharge on the menu.
How to set the selling price
Set the price by dividing the ingredient cost per cup by your target food cost percentage, then compare it with nearby cafés. The food cost percentage is the share of the selling price that pays for ingredients.
Work back from a food cost percentage
The Culinary Institute of America, a US cooking school, gives the selling price as “cost per portion ÷ food cost percentage (in decimal form)”. Guide percentages differ by type of business. In material from Japan Finance Corporation (a Japanese government-owned lender), the guide for coffee shops is a food cost of 29% and a labour cost of 36%.
| Japan Finance Corporation guide (average) | Food cost | Labour cost |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee shops | 29% | 36% |
Source: Japan Finance Corporation, “創業の手引+(飲食業)” (Start-up guide for restaurants, in Japanese) https://www.jfc.go.jp/n/finance/sougyou/pdf/sougyou_tebiki_insyoku180524.pdf
The same material notes that, depending on a shop’s concept, these figures may not apply. 29% is only the average for coffee shops in Japan. In countries where rent and labour costs differ, set the target from your own numbers.
Calculate on the price without tax
Calculate the food cost percentage on the selling price without tax. For example, a matcha latte at 75 baht including tax is about 70.1 baht without tax, and at a 29% food cost the ingredient budget is about 20.3 baht (our calculation). Subtract the milk, sweetener and cup from that budget, and what remains is what you can spend on matcha. Divide this by the grams per cup and multiply by 1,000, and you get the highest price per kg of matcha that works at that selling price.
In Singapore, cafés that use “++” prices show the price before tax and service charge, so calculate the food cost percentage on the menu price.
Compare with nearby cafés
Compare the calculated price with cafés on the same street or with the same customers. As the tables in this article show, in the three Southeast Asian countries specialists charge more than twice what affordable cafés charge, even within one country. If you are aiming at specialist prices, note that many specialists name the region or type of matcha on the menu. How to choose a matcha grade to fit your selling price is covered in How to choose matcha for café lattes.
What to check before setting the price
Once you have set a price, fix the grams of matcha per cup and the type of matcha, and decide how you will review the price when your buying price changes.
Fix the amount and the type
If the grams per cup change from person to person or shift to shift, your food cost percentage moves too. Set the amount with a scale, not a measuring spoon. When you change the type of matcha, taste them side by side at the same amount and with the same milk, then recalculate the cost and the selling price.
Prepare for changes in buying prices
Japanese matcha prices have kept rising since 2025. The background is in Is there still a matcha shortage? Agreeing your annual volume and when prices will be reviewed with your supplier in advance gives you more room to keep your menu price unchanged through a sudden price rise.
With Omakase Matcha
Omakase Matcha supplies matcha bought directly from the Uji, Yame, Kagoshima, Shizuoka and Miyazaki regions, from 1kg. We deliver to Singapore on DDP terms (the seller pays duties and taxes) and to Thailand and Indonesia on DAP terms (delivered to your location). To compare them with your own milk, you can request samples of up to three types. The differences between grades are covered in Matcha grades.
